Meghan Markle ‘attacked’ by ghosts of the past when she wants to change her…

Meghan Markle’s latest Netflix cookery show has certainly grabbed global attention-but not necessarily for the recipes. Instead, one particular moment has sparked heated discussion, as the Duchess of Sussex declared she now wishes to be known as “Meghan Sussex”.

During an episode featuring actress Mindy Kaling, Meghan appeared visibly irritated when Kaling referred to her as Meghan Markle.

You have kids and you go, ‘No, I share my name with my children.’ I didn’t know how meaningful it would be to me, but it just means so much to go, ‘This is OUR family name.’ Our little family name,” Meghan quickly corrected her.

Kaling, clearly caught off guard, responded with a hesitant: “Well, now I know and I love it.”

Many royal watchers have pointed out that Meghan’s stance on her name has seemingly shifted over the years.

In her 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, Meghan expressed deep emotional attachment to her maiden name.

I’ve lost my father, I’ve lost a baby. I nearly lost my name… There’s a loss of identity,” she said.

Given this past statement, some royal fans have labeled her a hypocrite for now wanting to discard “Markle” in favor of her royal title.

The Sussex title
While royals often use their ducal or princely titles as surnames-Prince Harry was known as Harry Wales in school and the military-many have questioned why Meghan would opt for “Sussex” given her and Harry’s limited connection to the county.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have only officially visited Sussex once, spending just six hours in Brighton, Chichester and Peacehaven during a whirlwind 2018 royal tour.

Furthermore, under Buckingham Palace’s naming conventions, the official surname for Prince Harry and their children, Archie and Lilibet, is Mountbatten-Windsor-a decision made by Queen Elizabeth II in 1960 to honor both the House of Windsor and Prince Philip’s lineage.

Royal experts have noted that Meghan’s decision to rebrand as “Meghan Sussex” has been met with mixed reactions. Critics argue that it reflects a lack of self-awareness, particularly given the couple’s strained relationship with the Royal Family and their limited ties to Sussex itself.

Meanwhile, supporters counter that Meghan is simply embracing her role as a mother and choosing a unified family identity.
