Too harsh: Prince Harry’s eight-word fury to King Charles over Meghan’s exclusion from…
In a shocking revelation from Prince Harry’s 2023 memoir ‘Spare,’ he recounts the distressing events of September 8, 2022 – the fateful day when the Queen passed away.
Prince Harry details how King Charles explicitly instructed him not to bring Meghan Markle to Balmoral to bid farewell to his grandmother. In an emotionally charged recall, Harry, aged 40, writes: “He said I was welcome at Balmoral, but he didn’t want… her. He started to lay out his reason, which was nonsensical, and disrespectful, and I wasn’t having it.”
Standing up for his wife, Harry admits he retorted fiercely, “Don’t ever speak about my wife that way.”
According to the book, during the subsequent discussion, a flustered King Charles apparently backtracked, cited the desire to avoid a large gathering as Kate wouldn’t be present, thus neither should Meghan. Further adding to the prince’s turmoil, Harry also faced obstacles in reaching Balmoral due to a breakdown in communication with the Royal Family.
Desperate to reach Scotland, he eventually made his own arrangements but distressingly arrived too late to say his final farewells.
He recounted the poignant moment: “When the plane started to descend I saw that my phone lit up. It was a message from Meg: ‘Call me when you get this.’ I looked at the BBC website. My grandmother had died. My father was King.
Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan, who was not initially invited to Balmoral on the day Queen Elizabeth II died, was eventually included in the funeral procession with other members of the Royal family, as reported by the Express. This event marked Meghan’s most recent presence in the UK, whereas Harry has since returned multiple times on his own accord.
Notably, Harry was in the UK to stand by his father this February following the public announcement of Charles’ cancer diagnosis and was also spotted at the WellChild Awards 2024 held in September.
