Just In: Serena Williams’ coach goes scorched earth after Carlos Alcaraz faces “inappropriate” accusations of snubbing fans before US Open
Carlos Alcaraz was spotted walking down a New York street ahead of his singles campaign at the 2026 US Open. The Spaniard also appeared to ignore autograph requests from fans as he walked, but according to Serena Williams’ coach Rennae Stubbs, the seven-time major winner was ‘on his own time’. Stubbs also defended the former No. 1 saying that he frequently engages in fan interactions during public practice sessions and tournaments.
On Thursday, August 27, a fan posted the video of Alcaraz walking in New York on Instagram and captioned it:
“@carlitosalcarazz in New York and did not sign for the fans #carlosalcaraz #tennis #usopen #nyc”
Subsequently, Rennae Stubbs, the Australian former women’s doubles No. 1 who is currently coaching Serena Williams, entered the comments and delivered a scathing reaction to the fan’s post. Stubbs wrote:
“I don’t think you understand how annoying this is. Also most of these “fans” are selling these photos! They ask them to sign multiple things. Also if u stop u invite others to do the same.”
Vehemently defending Carlos Alcaraz, the 55-year-old Australian added:
“He’s on his own time. Leave him alone. When he’s at the tennis he signs almost all true fans things. This headline and your comment are very misleading & inappropriate. This guy is one of the nicest guys in tennis, so stop with the BS.”
“Have some respect!” – Fans join Rennae Stubbs in defending Carlos Alcaraz
Numerous tennis fans felt the same way Rennae Stubbs did about the accusation against Carlos Alcaraz, and they urged the fan who posted the video to respect the Spaniard’s privacy.
“Jesus, leave him alone, have some respect!” one fan wrote.
“Please give him some privacy,” commented another.
“He signed for me. What you talking about?” another fan chimed in.
“Really???? It’s his private time, he signs endless autographs and pics taken…leave the boy alone!!!!” urged one.
“So you posted this why? So people can drag and bully him! You guys are so mean, it’s crazy!!!” another added.
On the tennis front, Carlos Alcaraz made his competitive comeback from injury in the 2026 US Open‘s mixed doubles championship, where he paired up with Serena Williams. While Alcaraz and Williams won their first-round outing, they lost their quarterfinal clash against the eventual runner-up team of Flavio Cobolli and Belinda Bencic.
