As tennis enthusiasts from across the city queued up to meet the WTA star, one fan jokingly got down on one knee with a candy ring for Alex Eala. Reacting to the gesture, the Filipino phenom broke out into a fit of laughter and called her dad over to witness the moment.

Alex Eala faces tricky draw in New York
As the 17th seed, Alex Eala will begin her campaign at the 2026 US Open against a qualifier. She will then go on to battle either Ukraine’s Oleksandra Oliynykova or America’s Reese Brantmeier. Things will take a tricky turn for Eala as early as the third round, with a potential clash against longtime rival and friend Iva Jovic looming on the horizon.
Eala’s fourth round encounter in New York could see her face off against home player Coco Gauff in an electric battle. Her quarterfinal match will likely see her take on Mirra Andreeva or Amanda Anisimova, followed by a semifinals clash against the likes of Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek or Naomi Osaka.
Overall, Alex Eala has enjoyed a fantastic hard court season so far. After a fourth round exit at the Wimbledon Championships, the Filipino star kicked off her time on the surface at the Citi Open. Playing in Washington, the 21-year-old took down Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen, former US Open runner-up Leylah Fernandez, as well as the top three seeds, Jessica Pegula, Elina Svitolina and Naomi Osaka en route to her first WTA 500 title.
