The final of the WTA 1000 Canadian Open, also called the National Bank Open, concluded with Iga Świątek securing a clinical 6-2, 6-3 victory against Elena Rybakina in a highly anticipated final on Thursday, August 13. Both players were chasing their first title at the tournament, having previously gone no further than the semifinals.

The women’s singles event in Toronto featured high-profile names such as World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and two-time champion Jessica Pegula, among others. Defending champion Victoria Mboko withdrew from the event due to a knee injury she sustained during the grasscourt season.
Sabalenka, who was among the top favorites to win the trophy, crashed out in the Round of 16 against Ekaterina Alexandrova. Meanwhile, Naomi Osaka, who was defending her runner-up appearance from last year, was knocked out by Rybakina in the quarterfinal.
The Kazakh star, seeded second, began her campaign with a three-set win against Daria Kasatkina in the second round. She then secured a straight-set victory against Ann Li before surviving a scare against Liudmila Samsonova. Rybakina staged a 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4 comeback against Osaka in the quarterfinal and followed it with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 comeback against Gauff in the semifinal to set up a title clash against Świątek.
Świątek, meanwhile, opened her run with dominant wins against Sára Bejlek and Viktorija Golubic. In the fourth round, the Pole came from behind to beat Marta Kostyuk 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 and conceded just three games against Diana Shnaider in the quarterfinal. To confirm a meeting with Rybakina, Świątek saw off Elina Svitolina 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 on Wednesday.
Of the $7,433,076 prize pool, Świątek collected $1,085,220 as the champion. And as the runner-up, Rybakina won $564,920. Meanwhile, semifinalists Gauff and Svitolina earned $297,315 in prize money, and as the quarterfinalists, Osaka, Shnaider, Belinda Bencic, and Ekaterina Alexandrova pocketed $154,354.
With the victory, Iga Świątek secured her 26th career title and 12th at the WTA 1000 level, while also claiming her first trophy of the season. The triumph ended a long wait for the Pole, who had not reached a final since winning the Korea Open in September 2025.
Meanwhile, Rybakina, who has already lifted two trophies this year, including the Australian Open, continues her pursuit of a third WTA 1000 title. She has not won at that level since her triumph at the 2023 Italian Open.
The players now turn their attention to the WTA 1000 in Cincinnati, where Świątek is the defending champion while Rybakina aims to make a push for the World No. 1 ranking.
