BREAKING: ‘You’ve ruined everything’ — explosive claims rock Princess Beatrice and Edo’s marriage
Plastering on a smile as she exited a swanky sushi restaurant in Notting Hill alongside her husband, Edoardo [Edo] Mapelli Mozzi last week, Princess Beatrice’s show of defiance appears to have done little to dampen the rumours that all is not well in their five-year-marriage.
Amidst the ever-swirling furore surrounding the downfall of the house of York; a scandal that only deepened following Beatrice’s father Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest in February, whispers that Beatrice, 37, and Edo’s union is in trouble have only got louder in recent weeks.
Now, following Italian count Edo’s unexpected, seemingly jolly jaunt to the US on a business trip just days after his father-in-law’s arrest and the recent reports of a noticeable ‘distance’ between the couple – who share daughters Sienna, four, and Athena, one – we’re told that Beatrice is placing the blame for her alleged marital woes on her disgraced parents.
The insider says, ‘Beatrice is panicking and has told friends she’s worried that he’s pulling away. She’s saying this is all her parents’ fault, that things were perfect between her and Edo before they turned the family name radioactive. She says they’ve ruined nearly every aspect of life and now it’s threatening her marriage.
‘Beatrice is desperate to prove people wrong and keep up the appearance that everything is fine, but anyone that knows her will tell you things between her and Edo are hanging by a thread.’
Questions over their marriage were first raised in early March when Edo, 42, posted a series of videos onto social media of what appeared to be the luxury apartments his property company are currently working on in Palm Beach, Florida.
The carousel of snaps also included a clip of him strolling along a palm-lined sidewalk and another snap of him posing in a bright pink suit underneath a candy-striped umbrella at what appeared to be a luxury restaurant or hotel.
So far, so normal for the life of the uber-rich, but his trip appeared to have come at an incredibly vulnerable time for Beatrice, who has barely been seen in public since Andrew’s arrest.
But several reports since have claimed the trip may have been a major read flag for their romance, with one source claiming, ‘Edo is a man who needs lots of attention, he’s one of those men…Bea knows what he’s like – he’s Italian’.
Now, following reports that Edo’s business grew exponentially, from debt of £244,000 to a turnover of £2.2 million in 2024 – four years after marrying Beatrice – our source says the sudden ‘radioactive’ nature of the Yorks’ name is ‘not sitting well’ with a man who is said to like doors opening for him as the husband of a princess.
The insider says, ‘Edo was used to a certain lifestyle and level of access that came with being attached to the Royal Family, and now that things have shifted, it’s not sitting well with him at all. There’s a growing sense that he’s questioning this new dynamic in the marriage, especially because this has impacted his social standing and status is important in his world.
‘Edo has been escaping to America more and more. He claims he needs to be there for work but of course it looks like he’s abandoning ship and leaving Beatrice to handle things on her own and that’s certainly her complaint, though she’d never admit that publicly.’
With Andrew all but in hiding at his Norfolk home, and their mother Sarah Ferguson currently reported to be hoping to drum up some cash in the US by selling the rights to a tell-all, Beatrice and her sister Princess Eugenie, 35, are no doubt beginning to feel the tidal wave of their father’s alleged actions for themselves.
For years the Princesses had enjoyed the protection and good graces of the rest of the Royal Family and the public, while their parents’ reputations slowly unravelled before their eyes; before the senior York’s were finally stripped of their titles last September amid ongoing allegations about their friendship with convicted paedophile, Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew has denied any wrongdoing.
Now, alongside calls from the UK public for the sisters to both be stripped of their titles and removed from the line of succession alongside their parents, the sisters have also been banned from attending Royal Ascot alongside the rest of their family, and Beatrice also stepped down from her role as patron to for a youth charity. There is no evidence of any wrongdoing whatsoever and neither Beatrice nor Eugenie have spoken out.
And the source says that within their inner circle, Beatrice an Edo are also struggling to cope as they become increasingly isolated from their usual elite social group.
The insider says, ‘The fallout [of her parents’ scandal] has seeped into every part of their lives, she’s lost work and they’ve both lost friends because so many people have shut them out socially, it’s not something either of them are coping well with.
‘The invites have dried up and everywhere they go people are whispering about them so there’s this constant feeling that they’re being judged and banished. They’re both struggling to come to terms with that deep sense of isolation and instead of that shared pain bringing them closer, it’s dividing them.’
Speculation has also continued over how much Beatrice and Eugenie did, or didn’t know, about their fathers alleged behaviour and how much they knew about their parents’ close friendship with Epstein.
Until recently, Eugenie and Beatrice had largely managed to sidestep the public furore surrounding their parents, but that changed dramatically when bombshell correspondence, allegedly between Sarah and Epstein, was released last month, mentioning Beatrice’s name 38 times, and Eugenie’s 19 times.
Among the most shocking claims were emails allegedly sent by Sarah which appeared to boast about Eugenie’s private life, mentioning her ‘s****ing weekend’ and the revelation that Sarah had taken Beatrice and Eugenie, then aged 20 and 19, to visit Epstein while he was serving house arrest in 2009 following his conviction for soliciting a minor [a 14-year-old girl] for prostitution].
But while Beatrice is no doubt taking some quiet time to process her emotions and navigate her next chapter, the source says tensions with Edo has also been growing over his belief that she should ‘create some distance’ between their family and her parents.
‘Edo wants Beatrice to draw a line in the sand with her parents. From his perspective, creating some distance is the only thing to do right now if they want to save their own skins but Beatrice isn’t willing to do it,’ the source says.
‘Despite everything that’s happened, she still feels a deep sense of loyalty to her parents, she’s not willing to turn her back on them and she resents Edo for even suggesting it.
‘To him it’s a matter of survival and he’s telling friends she’s making a huge mistake, he’s clearly pretty angry about it so unless one of them suddenly changes course, it could cause some serious problems within their marriage.’
