Andy and Kim Murray’s Scottish hotel returned to profitability during the last financial year after reporting losses of over £1million. This comes just weeks after the couple announced they would be temporarily shutting down the property, named Cromlix, for renovations.
The five-star luxury hotel in Perthshire was first purchased by the tennis icon in 2013 for £1.8m but in 2023, Andy and his wife Kim decided to take over the day-to-day management themselves. Since then, it has posted financial losses and the decision was made in December to undergo a significant expansion. Whilst its doors are shut, accounts filed reveal that in the last financial year the venture returned substantial profits, a stark change from preceding less-than-stellar takings.
When it was announced that both Andy and Kim would begin managing the hotel, it was closed for three months for a restyling. However, since then it has reported consecutive annual financial losses of £919,572 and £369,045. But according to new accounts filed with Companies House, Cromlix reported a profit of £193,379 for the year to March 2025.
This marks its first profitable financial year since 2022 and it comes a few weeks after the closure announcement, which is being made to facilitate the building of two new restaurants. Construction started in October and the major redevelopment will include a wellness facility and three new suites.
On January 4, the hotel officially shut its doors and it is reported that Cromlix will reopen to customers once again in May 2026. Cromlix’s booking team and online shop will remain operational during the closure.
According to The Courier, the new restaurant will accommodate up to 80 guests, offering views of the estate. The kitchen will also be relocated and upgraded to serve more customers. Meanwhile, the existing Glasshouse restaurant will continue to host afternoon teas and various events.
The project is headed by the Kings Group from Doune, with Perthshire architect Fergus Purdie and interior designer Suzanne Garuda also participating. When the expansion and new restaurant plans were announced, Andy’s other half Kim said: “I’m really excited about this next phase for Cromlix.
The Glasshouse, our current restaurant, has been doing really well and is fully booked most of the time, but the space lacks a bit of personality and doesn’t deliver aesthetically. We appointed a new executive head chef (James Mearing) earlier this year and he’s doing a great job, and it will be fantastic for him to put his stamp on this new food experience at Cromlix.”
In addition to the positive financial results, the accounts filed also showed that the net current liabilities of Wimbledon champion Andy’s hotel have decreased from approximately £1.8m to £1.6m.
Cromlix is far from the now-retired Andy’s only business venture. He also holds shares in sportswear company Castore, with whom he created the brand AMC in partnership. He is also an investor in Game4Padel, a company that installs and operates padel courts in the UK.
