“Toxic man” — Martina Navratilova accuses Donald Trump of ‘lying’ after controversial comments on 9/11
Martina Navratilova, one of the biggest critics of Donald Trump in the public sphere, has once again taken a swipe at the US President. Navratilova’s latest criticism of Trump stemmed from some controversial comments the US President made during a recent White House event to honor the emergency personnel who tragically sacrificed their lives in the September 11 terror attacks in 2001.
During the event, Trump took to the stage and claimed that two firemen had saved his life on the day of the attacks. The 80-year-old said:
“And I’ll never forget, we thought it was coming down on top of us, and two firemen, big strong guys — and I’m not the smallest guy in the world — they grabbed me under the arm, said, ‘Got to get out of here!'”
Subsequently, prominent American journalist, author and commentator Lesley Abravanel penned a scathing criticism of Trump on X (formerly Twitter) over his remarks as she questioned their authenticity citing a lack of evidence to support the US President’s claims.
“Real firefighters lost 343 of their own on 9/11. Trump now says two unnamed firefighters lifted him under his arms and ran him from a collapsing building because he’s “big.” No evidence supports the tale. He keeps turning their sacrifice into a story about himself,” Abravanel wrote.
Former World No. 1 in women’s tennis Martina Navratilova, who won 18 singles major titles during her playing days, took notice of Abravanel’s post and went on to deliver a scathing reaction of her own, writing:
“What a toxic man… lying through his teeth and making it all about himself.”
On the tennis front, Navratilova recently criticized the US Open after the ongoing New York major came in for criticism over multiple late-night finishes.
