“Such a humiliating & disrespectful way” – Anastasia Potapova calls out discrimination & ‘rude’ treatment on flight to NYC before US Open
Anastasia Potapova recently opened up about the ‘discrimination’ and ‘rude’ treatment she received on a flight to NYC before the US Open. The Austrian called out a flight attendant for treating her and her dog in a ‘humiliating and disrespectful way’, urging the airline to ensure better treatment of its passengers.
Potapova is one of the WTA’s most popular stars at the moment and the 25-year-old boasts of a large following on various social media platforms. The World No. 25 often gives fans glimpses of her everyday life as a tennis player, while also sharing behind-the-scenes snaps of what her life away from court looks like.
Most recently, Anastasia Potapova narrated her experience on her flight to New York ahead of the US Open. Taking to her Instagram story, the tennis star wrote,
“I have never done anything like this before, but right now I simply cannot stay silent. As a professional athlete, I travel extensively all over the world, but this is the first time I have ever experienced this level of disrespect, rudeness, and, to some extent, discrimination. Today, on my flight from Houston to New York, flight UA678, I encountered a flight attendant who repeatedly seemed to go out of her way to cause problems for me for no apparent reason.”
She went on to add that the flight attendant was rude to her and her dog, treating them in a ‘humiliating’ manner.
“She was extremely rude both to me personally and in the way she treated my dog. She also repeatedly brought up my status and threatened to remove me from the flight because of it. Her name is Mary. I truly hope that your airline will look into this situation and take it seriously, because no passenger – and no animal – deserves to be treated in such a humiliating and disrespectful way, especially by a member of the cabin crew.”
In a separate story, Potapova shared a picture of her flight attendant and demanded the airline ensure better treatment of its passengers.
Potapova later confirmed that she was in conversation with United Airlines about her experience
