BREAKING! Kim Kardashian Undergoes Surgery for ‘Irregularities’ amid Esophagitis Diagnosis: ‘Same Thing My Dad Had’

  • Kim Kardashian revealed that she will undergo surgery for “irregularities” in her throat following her recent esophagitis diagnosis
  • She says her father Robert Kardashian’s death from esophageal cancer has made the health concern especially frightening
  • Kris Jenner comforts Kim at the hospital as she prepares for the procedure in a clip of an upcoming episode of ‘The Kardashians’

Kim Kardashian reveals that she has to undergo surgery for “irregularities” in her throat after her recent esophagitis diagnosis — something she shared she was worried about given her family’s cancer history

“So I’ve seen a couple of doctors, and it’s been heavy on my mind lately,” Kim said in a confessional on the Oct. 29 episode of The Kardashians. Her father, Robert Kardashian, died of esophageal cancer in 2003 when he was 59 years old.

“I haven’t really told too many people about this, just because I think it’s something that really hits home for me and I just don’t really wanna go there,” Kim said. “With my dad having passed away from esophagus cancer, hopefully I can just take medication and this will go away.”

But in the preview for the next episode, Kim is shown entering a hospital. “The doctor says my esophagus has these irregularities, and I have to have them cut out. It’s the same thing my dad had,” Kim’s voiceover says, over a clip of Jenner consoling her daughter by a hospital bed.

Earlier this season, the Skims founder, who just turned 46, was diagnosed with esophagitis. It’s a condition that, per Mayo Clinic, causes a “swelling and irritation, called inflammation, of the tissues that line the esophagus.” Gastroesophageal reflux disease, commonly called GERD, is a leading cause of esophagitis, but it can also be caused by a buildup of white blood cells in the esophagus, or medication.

While esophagitis and esophageal cancer are different conditions, esophagitis can be associated with an increased risk of developing cancer. According to the University of Washington’s Division of Gastroenterology, chronic esophagitis is “very common” and can result from acid reflux. The department notes that one in 10 reflux patients could develop Barrett’s esophagus, “in which the normal lining of the esophagus is replaced by one prone to cancer.”

This isn’t the first time a health scare has come up for Kim on the reality show. In a November 2025 episode, she said doctors told her she had a brain aneurysm that had “been there for years.”
