  • Player demands: A group of top players, which includes Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, has asked Grand Slam tournaments to provide 16 per cent of tournament revenue as prize money this year, increasing to 22 per cent by 2030 – in line with prize money at joint ATP and WTA 1000 events. They have also asked for contributions to welfare schemes and for a greater say in decision-making.
  • Revenue sharing: While the tournament’s 2025 accounts have not yet been published, this year’s US Open prize money reflects an 18 per cent share of 2024 revenues. Once 2025 accounts are made public, the US Open could become the first tournament to hit the 16 per cent figure.
  • Welfare payments: The US Open will also make a £1.46m ($2m) financial commitment to player welfare schemes.
  • New council: The Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open have also announced the introduction of a new Grand Slam player council. They said: “The Council will provide a new platform for players and the Grand Slams to work together to shape the future of the tournaments and advance our shared goal of greater player support.”
  • Players’ response: The group of players has welcomed this year’s US Open prize money increase and the creation of the new council. This group had previously taken action at the French Open and Wimbledon by limiting media commitments early in the tournament
