“Entitled”; “No self-awareness” – Fans tear into Alexander Zverev after objection to foot fault call in Cincinnati loss

The World No. 3, Alexander Zverev, was recently knocked out at the Cincinnati Open by American tennis professional Tommy Paul. The World No. 39 saved a match point in the final round to seal a 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory on Wednesday. Although Zverev shot 14 aces in the game, he also recorded 9 double faults, including a foot fault call in the final round.

During the game, the German got into a heated argument with the chair umpire over a foot-fault call.

“The left one was very close,” the chair umpire said when Zverev walked up to his seat.

“Yeah, but I don’t move it. So it’s impossible. I’ve never foot-faulted in my entire career. Not once,” Alexander Zverev said in response to the umpire’s foot fault call.

The broadcaster then announced a replay of the moment, which clearly showed the German to be at fault.

“Well, you know what’s coming next, Sasha, we’ll have a replay of this, and there is a foot fault here. Absolutely,” the tennis broadcaster said.

Fans soon criticized the German’s heated altercation with the chair umpire.

“He’s just such an entitled be****,” one fan wrote.

“Shocker. He’s trying to get out of punishment for something he clearly did,” another fan wrote.

Where did Alexander Zverev falter in the Cincinnati Open?

Zverev had claimed the first set and trailed 3-4 in the second, after which the match was disrupted due to rain. When Paul returned in the evening, he had more clarity in his mind. Although the German started strong with a 4-2 lead in the third set, Paul showed resilience and won four straight games to bag a win and qualify for the Cincinnati Open quarterfinal match.

The dominance of Zverev was missing in this match against the American. He committed nine double faults, which cost him the lead. The 2026 French Open winner will next take part in the US Open with the hope of lifting his second Grand Slam trophy in one year
