Rain and thunderstorms in the Mason area led to the cancellation of the second session of the 2026 Cincinnati Open. Following this, fans expressed their frustration and disappointment. 33 qualifying matches, which were slated to take place during Session 2 on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, were canceled for the public due to inclement weather.

The gates of the Lindner Family Tennis Center remained closed for the fans after the tournament made several announcements of delays. With rain and thunderstorms troubling the Mason area all day, the tournament initially announced the delay at around 9:02 a.m and then at 4 p.m. After this, it cancelled the second day of qualifying and announced that the main draw will kick off on Thursday.

“Due to ongoing inclement weather, Session 2 has been cancelled. Out of an abundance of caution for our fans, gates will not be opened on Wednesday, Aug. 12. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the official X account of Cincinnati Open wrote.

Fans expressed their disappointment following the announcement of cancellation, with one of them questioning the planning and calling it ‘absolutely embarrassing.’

“Didn’t you plan the tournament with weather forecast in mind??? This is absolutely embarrassing

Another fan praised the tournament for taking the necessary safety action and wrote:

“Finally the right call has been made.”

Another fan opined that it is impractical to host the tournament in this particular period of the year, writing:

“This happened all last year too. This tournament is unsustainable at this time of year.”
