Just In: Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie ‘panicking’ as fears grow over Fergie bombshell
Princess Beatrice, 37, and Princess Eugenie, 36, are reportedly “panicking” amid fears that their mother is considering a tell-all interview about the family’s troubles, including the Epstein scandal. The sisters have tried to stay under the radar in the wake of allegations about their father, the disgraced former Duke of York, and his connections with the late Jeffrey Epstein.
However, the possibility of their mother presenting her side of events will “strike fear” into their hearts, a former BBC royal correspondent has said. Jennie Bond said, “I think her daughters would be in despair if she went ahead with a tell-all interview. Whatever she said would result in headline news and the sort of publicity that Beatrice and Eugenie are desperately trying to avoid”. Sarah Ferguson has reportedly been offered a large sum of money to persuade her to share her side of the story.
“If she wants to protect her family, her best strategy is to continue keeping as low a profile as possible,” the royal expert added.
The former Duchess of York, 66, also known as “Fergie,” has not spoken publicly about the Epstein scandal. However, she has denied any knowledge of criminal activity after being named in the Epstein Files.
She has kept a low profile since disturbing new details about her relationship with the convicted paedophile emerged in the latest tranche of files released by the US. After their eviction from Royal Lodge, Ms Ferguson vanished from the public eye for 213 days before reports surfaced that she was on the move after leaving a luxury £14,000-a-week Alpine resort in Austria.
Following the intense scrutiny surrounding their parents, the princesses have chosen to focus on their private lives, careers and young families to maintain a low profile. While they have appeared at key family occasions like Christmas to maintain ties, they have largely withdrawn from the public eye, instead focusing on their charitable endeavours, including Eugenie’s role with The Anti-Slavery Collective. Neither attended the Royal Family’s traditional Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel this year.
This comes after it was revealed that Sarah was issued a dire warning following reports that she had been inundated with offers for a bombshell memoir. However, a PR expert said that a memoir could potentially backfire for the former Duchess.
Celebrity PR specialist Kayley Cornelius told the Express: “In an age where audiences are more critical than ever and aware of how media productions operate, including the editorial control involved in high-profile interviews, anything she says is likely to face scrutiny.
The expert added: “There’s no amount of crisis PR that can fully save her now.
Ms Ferguson is understood to have received multiple opportunities to present her side of the story but has refused, notwithstanding the prospect of a six-figure sum.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s 2019 BBC Newsnight interview, in which he talked about his relationship with Epstein, is widely regarded as a catastrophic car crash that helped ruin his reputation. During the interview with Emily Maitlis, he failed to explain his association with Epstein, claiming he had stayed at Epstein’s home in 2010 to end their friendship, a claim that appeared implausible to viewers. He made dubious statements, including claiming to have a medical condition that prevented him from sweating. Days after the interview aired, Andrew announced he was stepping back from public duties.
Being mentioned in the Epstein files does not indicate wrongdoing and Andrew has repeatedly and vehemently denied any wrongdoing in relation to his friendship with Epstein.
