Coco Gauff frustrated by Florida voting Republican as she shares real feelings on Democrats’ high-flying win in Midterm Elections
Coco Gauff spent the hours after the 2026 midterm elections moving between pride and frustration, celebrating a Democratic sweep of Congress while making clear how much she wanted her home state of Florida to follow.
Democrats won control of the House and the Senate on Nov. 3, picking up at least six Republican-held Senate seats. The two that landed hardest were in the South. James Talarico beat Ken Paxton in Texas to become the state’s first Democratic senator since Lloyd Bentsen in 1988, and pediatrician Annie Andrews defeated Darline Graham in South Carolina, where a Democrat had not won a Senate race since 1998.
Florida went the other way. Republican Ashley Moody held off Democrat Angie Nixon by roughly three points in a state Donald Trump carried by 13 in 2024, even as Democrats defended three House districts Republicans had redrawn to make them safe.
Gauff expressed pride in the national result, while lamenting the lack of a similar outcome in her home state.
“Steps forward ! proud 🥺🙏🏾 💙,” she posted on Threads.
“Florida I still have faith…one day 💙😭,” Gauff commented further.
In response to a fan’s assessment, the two-time Grand Slam champion expressed optimism about Florida eventually following in the footsteps of Texas and South Carolina.
“If it can happen for South Carolina, it can happen in Florida 🐊 2028 is right around the corner,” the fan posted.
Having urged her fellow Americans to vote ahead of the elections, the World No. 4 also dismissed the claim that voting made no impact.
“Voting doesn’t do any thing 😕,” a user commented.
“Don’t be dumb,” Gauff responded.
Coco Gauff’s reaction does not come as a surprise, given her previous criticism of Florida’s government under Republican Governor Ron DeSantis. Before the 2024 presidential elections, the American had spoken out against the administration and encouraged the youth to vote for change.
