“Something in my eye” – Carlos Alcaraz & brother Jaime get emotional as elder brother Alvaro gets engaged to long-time girlfriend
The Alcaraz family’s closeness was on display as Carlos Alcaraz and his youngest brother, Jaime, both sent heartwarming messages to their eldest brother, Alvaro, after he and his long-time girlfriend announced their engagement.
Alvaro, who is about three and a half years older than Carlos, played a handful of ITF-level matches before turning his attention to his brother’s career. He joined the seven-time Grand Slam champion’s team in 2022 and has been a constant practice partner and travel companion since, taking on a more prominent role in the team after Juan Carlos Ferrero’s exit last year.
On Alvaro’s 27th birthday, his long-time girlfriend Lucía penned a touching message addressed to her “future husband” and showed off her engagement ring. The couple have been together for several years and keep much of the relationship private, though she has been a familiar face at Carlos’ biggest matches.
“You arrived when I least expected it, without knowing all the beautiful things that were about to begin, and between laughter and plans, I realized that I wanted to share with you my whole life,” Lucia posted on Instagram.
“Today I celebrate that you were born, the luck of having found each other and the excitement of all that is left of us, and how beautiful it is to take advantage of your day to tell something that makes us so happy. Happy birthday, my future husband, I can’t wait to continue celebrating birthdays and dreams by your side,” she continued.
Both Carlos and his brother Jaime celebrated the news with emotional reactions, joyfully welcoming “the best sister-in-law” into the family.
“I’ve got something in my eye… 🥹 what a greater joy ❤️,” Carlos Alcaraz commented.
“Wow, who would have thought that I’d end up with the best sister-in-law I could have ever asked for? ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” Jaime wrote
