Mirra Andreeva’s Parents: The Remarkable Story Behind Her Mother’s Unusual Pregnancy and Its Unexpected Connection to Her Tennis Journey

Mirra Andreeva faces home favorite Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals of the 2026 US Open today.

Entering the tournament as the No. 5 seed after an impressive season that included her first Grand Slam title at the French Open, the 19-year-old Andreeva has reached her career-best result at Flushing Meadows. She has dropped just one set on her way to the quarterfinals.

The match will also mark the sixth professional meeting between Andreeva and Gauff, with the American holding a perfect 5-0 record in their head-to-head series, including a victory over the Russian earlier this year in Rome.

All About Mirra Andreeva’s Parents Raisa and Alexander

Mirra Andreeva’s parents, Raisa Andreeva and Alexander Andreev, have played an important role in shaping her remarkable tennis career.

Her mother, Raisa, has been the primary driving force behind both Mirra and her older sister Erika’s tennis careers.

An interesting part of Mirra’s story is that Raisa developed a love for tennis while she was pregnant with her daughters. She reportedly became fascinated with the sport after watching Russian star Marat Safin win the 2005 Australian Open and would even wake up in the middle of the night to watch tennis matches.

That passion eventually influenced her decision to introduce both daughters to the sport at a very young age.

Her father, Alexander, has largely stayed out of the public spotlight. However, he has played an important behind-the-scenes role in Mirra’s career, including handling the financial side of her professional journey and managing her career earnings.

The family reportedly debated whether the sisters should pursue tennis or volleyball. Once they decided that Erika would pursue tennis, Mirra eventually followed the same path.

Training in Siberia proved difficult because of the harsh climate and limited access to top-level facilities. As a result, the family relocated first to Sochi, then to Moscow, and eventually to Cannes, France, where Mirra and Erika could access better training facilities and continue developing their games.

The move to France came with significant financial and personal sacrifices for the family. To help fund the girls’ expensive training and academy costs, Raisa and Alexander temporarily lived apart, with Raisa moving to France with the girls while Alexander stayed behind to work.

That sacrifice also highlights the different roles Mirra’s parents have played throughout her career. While Raisa is frequently seen courtside celebrating with Mirra and her coaching team, Alexander has deliberately remained out of the public spotlight, quietly handling the family’s finances and behind-the-scenes matters of his daughter’s career.
