Rafael Nadal Embarrassed by His Academy’s Initiative, Andy Murray Responds with Class
In The Set, the YouTube channel created by Andy Murray and his brother Jamie, a new video has just been released, titled “I Spent 24 Hours with Rafael Nadal”.
The content looks back at the day of October 3rd when the Spaniard’s exhibition was held to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his academy in Mallorca.
Andy Murray was first welcomed by Maribel Nadal, Rafael’s sister, at the academy, before Rafa joined him. The Brit was notably given welcome gifts, including an iPhone.
Rafael Nadal then showed Murray around the gym and the practice courts, and the Brit was impressed by the facilities created by the winner of 22 Grand Slam titles.
Nadal uncomfortable with the room dedicated to the Big Three
Accompanied by the other participants in the exhibition, including Dominic Thiem and Richard Gasquet, Murray then visited the academy’s museum, with Rafael Nadal still serving as his guide.
But one moment particularly caught the attention and illustrates Nadal’s humility.
One of the Spaniard’s team members came to see Murray to tell him that Nadal was not entirely comfortable with the presence of a room dedicated to the Big Three within the academy.
“Rafa won’t tell you, but he’s not comfortable with us having a room dedicated to the Big Three,” he explained to him.
Andy Murray simply replied: “I don’t mind.”
His interlocutor clarified that Nadal had expressed his discomfort to him, believing that this decision was not his to make.
But the Brit reassured him once again: “No, no, I don’t mind. It’s not a problem.”
A touching moment that highlights Nadal’s modesty, but also Murray’s gracious reaction, as he showed no discomfort at all with the academy’s initiative.
