Carlos Alcaraz shows true colours with Jannik Sinner message after bombshell announcement
Carlos Alcaraz showed his true colours towards Jannik Sinner just minutes after winning the Japan Open. It was just the Spaniard’s third tournament since injuring his wrist in April, with Alcaraz having endured a nightmare 2026 so far. The calendar year got off to a flying start when he won the Australian Open to complete the Career Slam. He returned to competitive action at the US Open, and the Japan Open title marks his third tournament win this year. There have been parallels to Jannik Sinner’s 2026, given the Italian has been in and out of the treatment room. Sinner didn’t compete at the US Open, and after pulling out of the first couple of matches on the Asian swing, the world No.1 has now called a premature end to his 2026 season.
Sinner made the announcement via social media, and Alcaraz was quick to send his regards to the five-time Grand Slam champion. Alcaraz commented: “Man! You will come Back stronger keep your head up, wishing you a speedy recovery.
Sinner revealed he’s taken the decision with one eye on his long-term career. He said in his announcement: “Me, together with the doctors, have decided that I need a course of treatment for my knee, which means that the 2026 season is officially over.
“The last couple of years, especially the ending in Turin, gave me so many beautiful feelings and emotions. This year is going to be way different. But at the moment I also need to think about my long-term career.
“I will do everything possible to get back to 100%. I thank you already in advance for you support, and hope to see you very, very soon on the court.”
Despite his best wishes, Alcaraz will be hoping to take advantage of Sinner’s continued absence at the upcoming Shanghai Masters. On the back of his Japan Open victory, the 23-year-old remarked: “It’s extra special after my injury.
“It was a tough week that I didn’t find my best tennis, my best level, but I did find the good solutions. I think that’s what matters in the end.”
Having slipped to third in the world rankings, Alcaraz is the second seed for the Shanghai Masters behind Alexander Zverev. He’s been given a bye into the second round, and will play either Juan Manuel Cerundolo or Nicolas Mejia. Shanghai hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the former world No.1, with his best performance having come at the 2024 edition when he reached the quarter-finals.
