🚨 “JUST LIKE SHARAPOVA!” — Mirra Andreeva Pulls Off a Stunning Beijing Feat That Echoes Maria Sharapova’s Remarkable Achievement, Leaving Tennis Fans Stunned by the Incredible Connection
Mirra Andreeva safely booked a Beijing quarterfinal spot and achieved a Maria Sharapova feat in the process after becoming just the second teenager to make multiple last-eight appearances at the China Open.
Playing against world No. 46 Daria Snigur on Tuesday, the Russian – who celebrated her 19th birthday in April – delivered a clinical display to dismantle the Ukrainian 6-2 6-2.
By beating Snigur, Andreeva secured her second Beijing quarterfinal. Previously, the Russian reached her first China Open quarterfinal in 2024 before losing to home star Zheng Qinwen.
The current world No. 5 also had round-of-16 outings at the tournament in 2023 and 2025.
Andreeva joins Sharapova as the only teenagers with multiple Beijing quarterfinal appearances
In 2004, a 17-year-old Sharapova reached the Beijing semifinal on her tournament debut before losing to Svetlana Kuznetsova. The following year, the Russian tennis legend returned to the semifinal – that year, an injury forced her to retire midway through the match against Maria Kirilenko.
Now, 21 years later, another Russian has reached multiple China Open quarterfinals as a teenager, and it’s Andreeva.
Andreeva explains the key behind her win over Snigur
Assessing her performance against Snigur, Andreeva noted that she served well, while also admitting that she focused on defending well and not allowing the Ukrainian to play her aggressive game.
“I think today I was serving well. I also think that I was defending well also because she’s a very aggressive player. I thought being a good defender today would be good and useful. I think I did these two things the best today,” the No. 4 seed explained after ousting Snigur.
Now, for a place in her maiden Beijing semifinal, Andreeva will face fellow Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova.
