Lewis Hamilton gives heartfelt tribute after painful loss of ‘best friend’
Lewis Hamilton paid tribute to “best friend” Roscoe as he marked the first anniversary of the death of his beloved bulldog. Roscoe passed away on September 28 last year, days after he was rushed to a vet and fell into a coma, which had the seven-time world champion worried that his pooch would not wake again.
Sadly, his fear was realised and Hamilton had to make “the hardest decision of my life and say goodbye”. One year on, the Ferrari driver took to Instagram on Monday to reflect on a year without Roscoe, who had been a regular visitor to the Formula One paddock during his life.
Posting a carousel of photos and videos from their many years together, Hamilton wrote: “It’s been one year since Roscoe’s passing. Being without my best friend has been hard, and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t wish he was with me.
“I think of him and Coco every day, and as sad as I am to not have them, I’m so grateful for the time I shared with them and to have had them in my life. They’ve been there for some of the happiest times of my life. Today, I’m looking through these photos and videos laughing and smiling so big remembering those moments.
So many of you have been through this and reached out with love and support. It means so much to me, knowing how much Roscoe was loved. Rest in peace buddy, love you always.”
Hamilton previously had to go through the pain of losing another four-legged friend, his other bulldog Coco. He lost her on June 18, 2020, from a suspected heart attack. At the time, the Brit posted: “My beautiful little girl Coco died at home with the family by her side. Her little heart gave in, we think it was a heart attack. I tried to revive her but it was no use
She’d had the best day, happier than I’d seen her in a long time. She was such a special dog, born with so many problems and I feel so lucky to have adopted her. Her breeder said she was going to have to put her down as she wouldn’t be able to afford all the things she would need to survive, she went through a lot to become the bouncy, lazy loving dog she was.
“On her last day, we shared a special moment playing together which I will never forget. I will miss her snoring and how happy she was always to see me. She was only six, healthy and happy. Naturally, my heart is broken but i hope she’s in a better place with my Aunty Diane. Wanted to share with you and thank those of you who loved and cared for her.
