“Same treatment for ALL players?” – US Open pro explodes in anger after shocking anti-doping test gone wrong
Professional Italian tennis player Lucrezia Stefanini has slammed the anti-doping test at the US Open after it left her with a painful hematoma that lasted for a week. She underwent the anti-doping test on September 2, the same day her run at the tournament came to an end.
Jasmine Paolini defeated Lucrezia Stefanini with a score of 6-4, 6-1 in the second round. Ranked 119th in the world, she took to social media to reveal the shocking incident, which left a bruise on her arm. She revealed that after the person in charge of her test failed to find her vein and they kept pushing the needle into her arm, which caused a severe bruise, leading to a hematoma.
She mentioned that even a week later, the bruise kept hurting during everyday activities and questioned whether all the players are treated the same way during the doping tests.
“A week ago, at the US Open, during doping control, the clerk was unable to find the vein and, instead of changing her approach, continued to move the needle around inside the arm in an attempt to find it. The result? This beautiful hematoma that, a week later, is still there. I wonder: is it normal for doping tests to be conducted this way? And above all, is this the same treatment for ALL players? This is the evolution of the hematoma during the week. What am I telling you, because obviously it hurts me even in everyday things.”
Due to the shocking and unexpected incident, Stefanini is unable to compete at the WTA 125 in Barranquilla, Colombia, and was forced to withdraw.
