Jamie Murray responds after Andy Murray comment – ‘Nice to keep that in the family’
Andy Murray couldn’t help but poke fun at his brother Jamie before the pair took part in the Nexo Championship Celebrity Pro-Am golf tournament last week. The British tennis legend divulged that his sibling had been struggling with his putting, something Jamie jokingly claimed should’ve stayed in the family.
Three-time Grand Slam winner Murray made a family affair out of the Pro-Am at the DP World Tour’s Nexo Championship in Scotland last Wednesday. The former world No. 1 was joined by mother Judy and brother Jamie on Trump International’s links in Aberdeenshire and teed off alongside 2018 Masters winner Patrick Reed, with whom the family played the front nine.
Another professional, Eddie Pepperell, played the back nine with Murray, who, since his retirement from tennis in 2024, has brought his handicap down to an impressive 0.3.
But before the Pro-Am started, Murray and his family spoke to BBC Sport Scotland, where he exposed a cheeky secret about his brother’s struggles on the golf course.
Questioned if there was any golfing rivalry between him and Jamie, who plays off a 9.6 handicap, Murray replied with a smirk: “There’s not much of a rivalry currently. Jamie has been struggling a bit with his putting over the last 18 months or so.”
Jamie retorted in jest: “It’s nice to tell the viewers that, isn’t it? It’s a fair assessment. It’s nice to keep that within the family, but apparently not.”
They were then asked who the best out of the three is at golf and Jamie admitted: “Andy’s the best.” His brother agreed, but admitted that it isn’t always the case: “Currently, but it changes on a daily basis. It’s a tough game, golf.
Mum Judy chimed in: “Growing up, Jamie played a lot of golf and he was the better golfer. But since Andy retired from tennis, he’s gone pretty much straight into golf and he’s got his handicap down to scratch. So yeah, Jamie’s on the lessons and trying to catch up.”
The former Wimbledon champion has flung himself into switching sports since hanging up his tennis racket. He has also started a new YouTube channel with Jamie called The Set. On the channel, Murray can be seen taking part in fun tennis challenges with his brother. The Scot also played a round of golf with current tennis star Casper Ruud for a video.
