“The Countdown Begins” — Jannik Sinner’s Expected Tennis Return Comes Into Focus as Fresh Details About His Injury Emerge, Leaving Fans Anxiously Waiting for the Latest Update on the World No. 1’s Comeback

The US Open will certainly be worse off without Jannik Sinner present, with the world number one having officially withdrawn yesterday afternoon.

It was a decision that has sent shockwaves throughout the tennis world, and will have left many of the ATP Tour’s biggest stars starting to genuinely believe that this could be the chance they have been waiting for to finally snag a Grand Slam.

This is the selfish outlook that a player must have when such devastating news emerges, even if they hold genuine sympathy for their adversary.

However, for fans, it is a case of hoping that this knee complication does not prove so troublesome that it derails the rest of Jannik Sinner’s season.

Fortunately, that doesn’t seem set to be the case.

More key details about Jannik Sinner’s injury are revealed

In a report published by Sky Sports Italy, crucial new information has come to light following Sinner releasing a statement yesterday confirming his withdrawal.

In it, they claim that the decision was made despite the Italian training over the last few days.

In fact, it was during those sessions that they came to the conclusion, as his knee did not respond positively to what little stress it was put under.

Fortunately, it is also stated that there are ‘no particularly worrying problems’ from a clinical point of view following check-ups in Turin, despite Sinner having been unable to train with intensity following his Wimbledon title.

This inability to follow their planned programme made the decision an obvious one, and he will now continue his rehabilitation, unwilling to risk his long-term fitness for one event.

It’s expected that he will now return between Beijing and Shanghai at the end of September.

If we have learned anything from this saga, it’s that Sinner’s withdrawal has showcased a major problem for tennis that needs fixing immediately.

Who will be the new top seeds at the US Open this year?

With Sinner out, but Carlos Alcaraz making his comeback at the US Open, the seeding for this final major of the season will be unique.

Alexander Zverev will be the top seed, with the Spaniard slotting in just behind him in second.

Felix Auger-Aliassime will be third, and fourth remains very much up for grabs.

Novak Djokovic needs Flavio Cobolli to lose his next match to be a top-four seed at the US Open, so that specific spot is still undetermined.

Beyond them is Alex de Minaur in seventh, Daniil Medvedev in eighth, Ben Shelton in ninth and Taylor Fritz rounding out the top ten seeds.
