“Diagnosed with cancer” – Tennis fans left stunned as Aryna Sabalenka’s fiancé opens up on heartbreaking journey to building multi-million brand Oakberry
Aryna Sabalenka’s fiance, Brazilian entrepreneur Georgios Frangulis, has managed to build a multi-million dollar brand that has become synonymous with acai bowls. The journey behind Oakberry though began with some big risks.
During a recent appearance in The Venture Show podcast, Frangulis opened up about his personal journey that began with a cancer diagnosis in 2016. The entrepreneur spoke about the initial doubt that scepticism that he was met with when he first decided to venture into the world of acai bowls. He recalled nobody believing in his ability to turn Oakberry into a profitable business.
The Brazialian, however, doubled down on his belief, saying he knew the customer base would immediately connect with his idea. The venture an instant hit, he said, was the best possible response that he could have given to the naysayers.
“August 2016, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, I was broke, I had no money and I needed surgery and to open my first Oakberry location… You either have to go ‘f*** it’ or you have to think ‘it cannot get any worse’. roNobody thought I could be paying super expensive rent selling Acai bowls because nobody was doing it,” he said. “From Day 1, people really understood what we were trying to do and Oakberry became a thing quite fast.”
