‘Worried sick’: Fears for Princess Beatrice as marriage to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi comes under ‘severe strain’ amid bizarre Epstein fallout
Princess Beatrice’s marriage to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi has reportedly come under “severe strain” amid the fallout from the Epstein files, with sources claiming the embattled royal is “worried sick” about both her parents and her relationship.
The 37-year-old princess has kept a relatively low profile following the release of the files, which shed further light on her parents Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah ‘Fergie’ Ferguson’s relationship with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
While Beatrice and her sister, Princess Eugenie, 36, were also named throughout the files, mention alone does not imply wrongdoing.
However, royal expert Phil Dampier claims “good sources” have told him all is not well in Beatrice and Edo’s six-year marriage, with the turmoil surrounding her family allegedly taking its toll.
“Bea has not been herself and the strain has told on her. She looks tired and has lost weight with worry,” Dampier told Woman’s Day.
“She is worried sick about her parents and now her marriage.”
According to Dampier, the dramatic fall of the House of York has also raised questions about how Beatrice’s husband views his royal connections, with some having previously accused the 42-year-old of benefiting from his wife’s status.
“With the former Prince Andrew now plain Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and being investigated by the police, and the Duchess of York now simply Sarah Ferguson, some friends of Beatrice believe Edo has lost interest in his ‘royal connections’,” Dampier said.
“One told me: ‘It would be unfair to say Edo didn’t love Bea when they got married, but a lot of people thought he was happy to use his kudos as being married to a royal to further his business interests’.”
Mapelli Mozzi, who runs luxury property development and interior design firm Banda, began dating Princess Beatrice in 2018 before the couple tied the knot in a private Windsor ceremony in 2020.
The couple share daughters Sienna, three, and Athena, one, while Mapelli Mozzi is also father to 10-year-old Christopher ‘Wolfie’ Woolf from a previous relationship.
Royal biographer and historian Andrew Lownie, who penned the bestselling memoir Entitled: Rise and Fall of the House of York, has also claimed Ferguson “never approved” of Beatrice and Edo’s marriage.
He also told the Daily Mail that both Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank, the husband of Princess Eugenie, feel strongly that their wives should put greater distance between themselves and their disgraced parents.
“The husbands don’t want their reputations and earnings tainted by association with Andrew and Sarah and are pushing for their daughters to distance themselves from their parents,” Lownie said.
“Both husband’s families are appalled by the activities of the former Duke and Duchess of York. A complication is the latter themselves never approved of Edo so no love lost there.”
Despite the alleged pressure from their husbands, Lownie said the York sisters continue to feel a deep sense of “loyalty” towards their parents- particularly their mother.
He previously told News24.com.au that the sisters are publicly “playing down their contact” with the former Duke and Duchess of York as they attempt to remain within the royal fold while navigating tensions with their husbands.
“The daughters are walking a tightrope torn between residual loyalty to their parents and pressure from their husbands,” Lownie told the Mail.
“They also realise they need to keep in with Royal Family, petrified Charles will change their subsidised arrangements at St James’s and Kensington Palaces and that their titles may be removed. If so, bang go their lucrative earnings from the Middle East.”
A second source told the outlet that Beatrice, in particular, is struggling with the prospect of distancing herself from her parents.
Beatrice is quite different from her sister. She really wants to almost naively see the good in people and will turn a blind eye to uncomfortable truths – that is why she was blind to her father’s behaviour, and the same is true of her belief in Edo,” the source claimed.
The source alleged that “things haven’t been great for a while” between Beatrice and Edo, but claimed the princess remains determined to “soldier on and forge a path through”.
“She wants to stay together, but he seems more and more distracted by work and travel. Just when she needs him most, he’s been pulling away.”
Mapelli Mozzi, who regularly shares updates from his travels on his personal and business Instagram accounts, recently documented a lavish trip to the US, including stops in Miami and Palm Beach.
Just last month, the property developer also travelled to St Tropez, France, without his wife, where he was spotted socialising with a string of high-profile guests.
A guest who attended a party at Le Club 55 earlier this month told the Daily Mail that Beatrice’s husband of six years was “behaving as if he was single” as he shared a $180 bottle of wine with the likes of actress Amanda Holden and former model Kelly Brook, while his wife was “too sick” to leave her bed at home.
