Just In: Tennis Fans Left Confused as a Strange Detail Emerges Following Alex de Minaur and Katie Boulter’s Secret Marriage
Alex de Minaur and his long-time British partner Katie Boulter have tied the knot in a secret ceremony in England.
However, the date of the couple’s special occassion has raised more than a few eyebrows.
According to The Daily Mail, the tennis power couple, who have been together for six years, were married in a Leicestershire church near where 29-year-old Boulter was raised on Sunday.
The outlet stated that locals in the area were “sworn to secrecy” about the wedding, which took place in front of a select few family members.
Boulter wore a white off-the-shoulder gown, while de Minaur was dressed to the nines in a black suit, white shirt and bow tie.
Yet while Boulter and de Minaur were celebrating the consummation of their love, just two hours’ drive away, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev were playing the Wimbledon men’s final.
Given that the date of the men’s final is known well in advance, it can be suggested that de Minaur booked the wedding date with the confidence that he wouldn’t make the Wimbledon final.
It could be considered a damning detail for the Aussie who, despite his round of 16 exit, has climbed to currently be ranked No.5 in the world.
In fact, the 27-year-old is the first Australian man to make the top five in 17 years and the seventh in total after Rod Laver, Ken Rosewall, John Newcombe, Pat Cash, Pat Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt.
In his round of 16 match, de Minaur was the overwhelming favourite against Flavio Cobolli, but the Italian claimed a 7-5 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 win to progress through to the quarterfinals.
After the defeat, de Minaur said failing to live up to expectations again was truly heartbreaking.
“I’m broken inside. That’s the reality. You invest so many hours into this job and so many years to have moments like these. Not being able to live up to it is truly heartbreaking. It’s very hard,” de Minaur said post-match.
“I won’t be playing a tournament for a while. But again, they keep piling up. The goals, the belief, the dreams you have start fading away or feeling a little bit further out of reach than they once were.
I feel like a couple of years ago I was definitely closer. Now I just feel like I’m drifting a little further away from those dreams. It’s getting harder and harder. That’s the reality.”
But the fact that he would have booked his wedding with the belief he wouldn’t make the final shows his belief that he could be a grand slam champion is wavering.
And fans were quick to question if he had the belief in himself anymore.
“Huge congrats to both, just noticed the wedding was planned on the same day as the @Wimbledon men’s final.Alex de Minaur was the 5th seed so you would think have a fair chance of making the final? I do hope Alex starts believing in himself more as he’s got all the talent,” popular tennis account Pavvy G said.
“World No.5 ranked player planning their wedding for the day of the Wimbledon final … the ATP is absolutely cooked,” Todd Bonzalez wrote.
“Do you know how crazy this is?! Planning your wedding on the same day as the Wimbledon final (a competition you’re also competing in). That is a whole new level of confidence in your “inability” to reach the final. Congrats to them though,” another added.
“He really didn’t have much belief he would make the final kind of tells it’s own story,” a fourth said.

While Boulter, who has a career-high ranking of World No. 23, has now slipped to 67th in the world and crashed out of Wimbledon in the first round to Italy’s Tyra Caterina Grant.
She had reached the third round at her home Slam in both 2022 and 2023, but has never made it to the round of 16 at any Grand Slam.
