The 46-year-old has been in a relationship with Sharapova since 2018, but the couple have chosen to keep their personal life relatively private, and only share rare updates about their day-to-day with fans. Recently, Gilkes shared the news of his mother, Robyn’s, passing on Instagram, writing,
“Goodbye, darling Madre. With the heaviest of hearts, we lost our adored mum, Robyn, last Friday. I always dreaded this day, but she left us peacefully, no longer suffering, and having made it to the season finale of Traitors. She was the life force of our family: the loving anchor to her five children, nine grandchildren, and devoted husband. She showed us what unconditional love and undeterred optimism looks like every single day.”
Gilkes went on to celebrate his mother’s warmth and the memories he shared with her, adding,
“Madre, thank you for the love that shaped us and gave us the confidence to fly freely. For your strength. For being our home. Thank you for teaching us to see the best in everyone: a lesson we all need right now. Thank you for choosing me to be your son. We will miss you terribly. I love you, always. # f**k cancer.”
Maria Sharapova and Alexander Gilkes were first rumored to be dating in early 2018 after the couple was spotted spending time with each other. They made their relationship public In October that same year. They got engaged in 2020 and have since welcomed their son Theodore into their family.
