Just In: “My boyfriend is total opposite of me” – Leylah Fernandez reveals details of awkward Steph Curry encounter
Leylah Fernandez made the best of her brief break ahead of the US Open swing, attending the ESPY awards as a guest. She was accompanied to the high-profile event by her boyfriend Vincet Boily, a Olympic ice sled hockey player.
The event, held at the David H Koch Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City, drew some of the biggest names in the sporting world. Fernandez, for one, had her own fan moment with basketball pro Stephen Curry.
Recalling the incident during her appearance at Andy Roddick’s Served Podcasr, she said she was a little star struck. She recalled taking a photograph with Curry, who she described as her favorite basketball player.
Fernandez joked about being too shy to approach Curry herself, saying it was Boily who initiated the conversation before she joined in. Describing her boyfriend as her “exact opposite”, the Canadian said he’s the one who takes charge in such social interactions, giving her the opportunity to chime in.
“I’m shy, I don’t come up to people and start a conversation. So I would kind of like be there and I saw Stef Curry… and we made eye contact but I didn’t take that step forward,” Leylah Fernandez said.
“I saw him he was like doing it with like everyone but I was just too shy to actually make that step so but yeah, but also the help is that like my boyfriend… he’s a total opposite of me like he will go up to people so they keep start the conversation, then I’ll kind of chime in and just just be there,” she added.
Notably, Curry was awarded the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award at the ESPY awards ceremony in New York this year.
