“I cried” – Tommy Paul shares emotional moment from his wedding as Taylor Fritz reveals Frances Tiafoe’s rarely-seen side
American ATP stars and good friends Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz have shared a couple of emotional stories from the former’s recent wedding with influencer and entrepreneur Paige Lorenze. Fritz’s account included compatriot and fellow ATP star Frances Tiafoe, who had also attended the Long Island wedding ceremony.
When asked by Tennis Channel if any of his friends had made him cry during the wedding, Paul recalled how the wedding made him emotional for a while even though he thought he would remain ‘tough’ in the life-changing moment.”No. They have not, but like, you know I thought in the moment at the wedding, I was going to be tough and not cry, but I went over the edge, I cried a bit,” Tommy Paul said.
Next, the same question was fielded to Fritz. Here, the World No. 10 and 2024 US Open finalist revealed how Tiafoe almost cried while rehearsing his wedding speech for Paul. According to Fritz, seeing the usually fun-loving and goofy Tiafoe being so ‘serious’ made him emotional as well.
“At the rehearsal, everyone was speaking and I didn’t want to speak because I for sure would have cried, but we kind of put Frances on the spot because he was late and made him go up and talk. He didn’t have anything prepared and spoke from the heart. Very heartfelt. Never really heard Foe be so serious like that. And I feel like he was kind of close to crying, and it kind of also made me kind of close to crying because I don’t normally see him like that,” Fritz added.
On the tennis front, Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe are currently building themselves up for this year’s US Open.
Frances Tiafoe suffers early blow at Mubadala DC Open in Washington; Taylor Fritz secures progress to 2R while Tommy Paul gearing up for 1R
The 2026 Mubadala DC Open in Washington is underway, and the combined ATP and WTA 500 event is among the buildup tournaments prior to this year’s US Open. Frances Tiafoe, the home favorite, suffered a shocking first-round loss to Terence Atmane. Tiafoe had thrice gotten the better of Atmane previously this year, but this time around, it was the Frenchman who came out on top after a three-set battle.
Meanwhile, Taylor Fritz‘s campaign opener in Washington was much more straightforward, as he defeated Zizou Bergs of Beligum 6-3, 6-4. Tommy Paul is set to get his campaign underway with a first-round clash against Kamil Majchrzak of Poland on Tuesday, July 28.
