Just In: Meghan Markle leaves King Charles ‘sad and disappointed’ with recent actions

Meghan Markle is said to have left King Charles “disappointed and upset” with her latest move, adding extra strain to what was once quite a close relationship. Royal insiders had previously reported that the monarch and his daughter-in-law were rather fond of each other and shared a friendly, loving relationship. However, after years of family turmoil, the relationship seems tainted, with Harry and Meghan’s latest drama making a full reconciliation less likely.

Harry and Meghan were originally supposed to travel to the UK together with their two children, Archie and Lilibet. While Harry is here to celebrate the Invictus Games, there was hope that Meghan and the rest of the family would be there for a royal reunion. However, the couple’s level of protection was reduced when they stepped down as working royals in 2020, and they were not granted police protection for their planned trip to the UK. While Harry may fly Meghan and the kids in from Europe for less than 24 hours, a reunion between Meghan and the King is looking unlikely.

A source said that Meghan is reportedly unhappy with how the security situation has been handled.

A source told journalist Rob Shuter on his Substack: “This was one insult too many. Meghan feels they’ve bent over backwards for Harry’s family, only to be embarrassed again. As far as she’s concerned, she’ll never see them again.”

Meanwhile, speaking to OLBG, former royal butler Grant Harrold said that Meghan’s return to the UK could have signalled a turning point for her. He revealed: “This trip could have been a big turning point for Meghan, as it could have been a huge step in terms of relations between her and the royals.

“A private, in-person meeting with her in-laws was the next positive step on their path to fix the upset. It also could have done wonders for her in terms of public perception.

He added: “If she doesn’t come, it’s not going to fix anything. I think she’s basically saying if it doesn’t happen on our terms, it’s not going to happen. Even if that’s not what they intended, that’s how it’s coming across.

“I think he’ll be really upset, not just about missing out on the meeting but also on what it means for the future. I’d be interested to know if Meghan messaged the King personally to apologise.”

Prince Harry landed in the UK for a five-day visit to London and Birmingham this week. He arrived in the UK just hours after his accommodation offer at Buckingham Palace was revoked..
