Sources have claimed Princess Beatrice’s marriage to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi is under strain as concerns mount the Italian aristocrat is creating distance while fallout from the Epstein files continues to engulf the York family.

The 37-year-old royal and Mapelli Mozzi, 42, have been married for almost six years and share two daughters, Sienna, aged four, and Athena, one.

Mapelli Mozzi is also father to nine-year-old Christopher “Wolfie” Woolf from his previous relationship with Taiwanese-American architect Dara Huang, 43.

While the pair were long considered solid, friends fear cracks may be emerging as Mapelli Mozzi increasingly spends time overseas – without Beatrice.

Sources close to the couple have claimed there has been noticeable “distance” between them in recent months following the release of the Epstein files, which detailed links between Beatrice’s parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, and convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Beatrice herself was mentioned multiple times in the files released by the US Department of Justice, however, mention does not imply wrongdoing.

In late January, Mapelli Mozzi travelled more than 7,000 kilometres from the UK to Palm Beach in Florida where he promoted his interior design firm, Banda, at a conference.

During the trip, he spent time at the ultra-exclusive Fisher Island Club, off the coast of Miami.

On February 6, Banda shared a video montage from the visit on Instagram, featuring the text “Life is not a movie” followed by a recap post days later highlighting his time in Miami and Palm Beach.

According to a source speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Mapelli Mozzi is keen to protect his growing business from any association with the controversy surrounding Beatrice’s family.

“Things haven’t been great for a while between them, but Beatrice has been determined to soldier on and forge a path through,” the source said.

“She wants to stay together, but he seems more and more distracted by work and travel. Just when she needs him most, he’s been pulling away.”

A second source claimed Mapelli Mozzi is increasingly focused on safeguarding his professional reputation.

“Banda has been taking off lately and he’s found some great investors among the wealthy Cotswolds set, but it’s taking up a lot of his time and energy,” the source said.

“He’s all about himself at the moment. You have to feel for Beatrice.”

Another insider added: “There’s been distance between them with his much-increased work travel lately, which he has been posting out [on social media] heavily in a way he didn’t before.”

It is understood Mapelli Mozzi has been making frequent trips to and from the United States since the beginning of the year.

His latest visit comes at a particularly difficult time for Beatrice, who, alongside her younger sister Princess Eugenie, 35, has kept a low profile following the release of the files.

Behind the scenes, the situation is also said to be causing concern within Mapelli Mozzi’s own family.

Reports have suggested the property developer’s parents are uneasy about the reputational impact.

A source recently told New Idea the Mapelli Mozzis are “beside themselves” and “furious” that their son has become “wrapped up in the York wreckage”.
