SHOCKING: Andrew’s life ‘torn apart after little-known TV moment’ – not Newsnight disaster
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor may have stepped away from royal duties in 2019, not long after his disastrous BBC Newsnight interview, but it seems that this interview was not actually to blame for the big move. While it is believed that Andrew’s BBC Newsnight interview, which saw him speak about his ex-friendship with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, is what prompted the start of his royal downfall, a royal author claimed it was actually another little-known TV moment.
Robert Hardman claims it was an ITV debate about the General Election that led Andrew to step back from his royal duties. This is because the former prince’s name was mentioned in the political debate, which is something that is not a good look for the Royal Family.
This is because royals are supposed to keep a low profile during general elections.
Royal expert Robert Hardman, writing in his book ‘Elizabeth II In Private. In Public The Inside Story’, he said the late Queen knew she had no option but to withdraw her second-born child from public life when he was mentioned in a debate by political leaders.
As reported by WalesOnline, Mr Hardman claimed: “When he even surfaced as a question in a televised debate featuring party leaders, the Queen (Elizabeth II) knew that she had no option.
“In tandem with the Prince of Wales, she could see no alternative to Andrew’s removal from public life. After all, public duties only work when the public wants to see someone, as they manifestly did not in this case.
Andrew’s statement announcing his step back from royal duty was released on November 20, 2019.
He wrote: “It has become clear to me over the last few days that the circumstances relating to my former association with Jeffrey Epstein has become a major disruption to my family’s work and the valuable work going on in the many organisations and charities that I am proud to support.
“Therefore, I have asked Her Majesty if I may step back from public duties for the foreseeable future, and she has given her permission.
“I continue to unequivocally regret my ill-judged association with Jeffrey Epstein. His suicide has left many unanswered questions, particularly for his victims, and I deeply sympathise with everyone who has been affected and wants some form of closure. I can only hope that, in time, they will be able to rebuild their lives. Of course, I am willing to help any appropriate law enforcement agency with their investigations, if required.”
Andrew has always denied any wrongdoing and accusations surrounding his past friendship with Epstein.
