Princess Beatrice’s name had to be changed urgently after demand from Queen

With each royal baby making their arrival, the customary name announcement follows as months of conjecture and betting predictions reach fever pitch.

The entire rationale behind this delay stems from an “informal discussion” occurring between the new parents and the Queen, during which she grants approval to their chosen name…

Or, on certain occasions, withholds it.

Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s names were revealed two days following their birth, whilst Prince Louis’ name was disclosed a full four days afterwards.

However, by royal family standards, four days represents a relatively brief period.

In August 1988, Andrew Mountbatten and Sarah Ferguson welcomed their first child – a baby girl now recognised as Princess Beatrice.

Andrew and Fergie took a fortnight to officially announce her name, with the delay attributed to the Queen’s reservations about their initial preference, according to The Sun at the time and subsequently reported by 9Honey.

Fergie had been determined to name her daughter Princess Annabel, but Her Majesty’s response, apparently, deemed the name excessively “yuppie”.

Yet it appears that what the Queen denies with one hand, she bestows with another – she subsequently proposed Beatrice, thought to draw inspiration from Queen Victoria’s youngest daughter’s name, and the matter was settled.

Beatrice’s complete name is Beatrice Elizabeth Mary, with her middle names honouring her grandmother and great-grandmother.
