Just In: Emma Raducanu Receives Shocking and Depressing News as Her Tennis Career Future Is Put to the Test

British tennis star Emma Raducanu enjoyed a strong start to the grass-court season, reaching the final of the Queen’s Club Championships before eventually losing to Donna Vekic in straight sets.

Heading into Wimbledon as the British No. 1, many expected Raducanu to carry that momentum into the year’s third Grand Slam.

However, her hopes of making a deep run came to an abrupt end. Raducanu was forced to withdraw from Wimbledon after suffering a Grade 4 stress fracture in her lower right leg.

Will Emma Raducanu Be Seeded at the US Open?

Now, Raducanu has officially pulled out of both the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open. While she is expected to recover in time for the US Open, which begins on August 23, the Brit faces another setback.

She is at risk of missing out on a seeded spot in New York, as she could lose 325 ranking points before the tournament begins.

Raducanu enjoyed a productive US hard-court swing last season, reaching the third round of both the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Open. She also made the semifinals of the Washington Open, meaning she has significant ranking points to defend over the coming weeks.

With the possibility of returning only at the US Open, her ranking is expected to take a considerable hit.

By the start of the year’s final Grand Slam, Raducanu is likely to drop outside the top 50 in the WTA rankings.

It will be a disappointing development for the 2021 US Open champion, who now faces the difficult task of returning from injury without the protection of a seeded position. Given the circumstances, a deep run in New York would represent a significant achievement
