Just In: King Charles abdication rumour comes to end with latest announcement
King Charles III has cleared the air about his future on the throne, saying no to abdication while strenghtening his reign amid ongoing family crisis that has forced him to make some bold decisions.
The monarch, 76, who met Pope Leo XIV in the Apostolic Palace to begin his State Visit to the Holy See on Thursday, has marked a new chapter of his reign by unveiling a fresh coin with his portrait.
The move, according to some royal insiders and historians, indicates that he has not intention to handover the throne his eldest son William anytime soon.
“The King is fit and winning his battle against cancer with his determination and spirit,” a royal insider claimed while slamming rumours about his health.
They went on to explain “the monarch won’t leave the throne to his heir in the near future as he enjoys taking on responsibilities and serving his ppeople. These activities keep him alive.”
The source tried to reveal the truth about the monarch, who feels no fatigue to serve his people, adding: “He finds purpose and vitality in fulfilling his task and mission he set before accending to the throne, following in his late mother Queen Elizabeth II’s footsteps, who reigned well into her nineties.”
The Palace aides laud the King, saying: “It’s a lifelong mission that keeps the monarch’s spirit vibrant and his dedication unwavering.”
The latest annuoncement about releasing the fresh coins with the King’s portrait indicates he plans to continue as King. The significant change represents the first modifications to the five pence piece in seventeen years.
As per the statement, the Royal Mint will distribute 23.2 million new five pence coins as a shining symbol of heritage and renewal.
Meanwhile, the Prince of Wales is also preparing for his future role while taking on more duties to support his ailing father. He is in no hurry to wear the crown.
It emerges amid reports that the monarch might abdicate in favour of his eldest son William due to his health crisis and doctors’ advice to lighten his burden amid ongoing cancer treatment. William also wants to help ease his father’s workload, taking on more duties.
Who was the first British monarch to abdicate?
Abdication isn’t typically the norm for the British royal family. The last one, which involved Queen Elizabeth II’s uncle, Edward VIII, even caused crisis.
In 1936, Edward declared that he was voluntarily abdicating the throne, the first English monarch to do so, to marry American socialite Wallis Simpson.
This resulted in George VI becoming king and the former Princess Elizabeth suddenly finding herself next in line.
However, King Charles does not seem to give up the throne as he is most likely to do all he can to continue serving.
