Real Reason Prince William ‘didn’t want Meghan Markle to wear Princess Diana’s jewelry exposed

Prince William reportedly “sought assurances” that Meghan Markle would not wear any of Princess Diana’s jewelry before her marriage to Prince Harry, due to concerns about their relationship, according to a shocking new book.

It has been widely reported that William advised his brother to take things slow when he first started dating the former Suits actress, Meghan, in 2016. In his own controversial memoir, Spare, Harry recalls significant tension with his brother during the wedding planning process.

Now, in a new book titled Catherine, The Princess Of Wales: The Biography, author and Royal expert Robert Jobson alleges that the relationship between the two brothers deteriorated further before the 2018 wedding. William reportedly sought reassurances from their grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, that Harry’s bride-to-be would not wear their late mother’s jewelry.

This is despite his wife, Kate Middleton, wearing Diana’s stunning sapphire engagement ring. In an excerpt published in The Mail on Sunday, the book details how tensions escalated among the royals as Harry and Meghan’s wedding approached. As Harry recounted in his own book, Spare, there was an awkward moment between Meghan and Kate over lip gloss several months before the wedding, and things came to a head between the two women over bridesmaid dresses.

In his latest book, the author reveals: “By the time William was confirmed as best man, the relationship had worsened. I have been told that still concerned about the match, he’d sought assurances from the Queen that Harry’s bride would not be wearing any of Princess Diana’s jewelry, even though his own wife was allowed to wear it. Despite sharp digs and thin skins on both sides, the wedding at Windsor in May 2018 was a spectacular success. In public, the Royal Family were all smiles, though privately they were at daggers drawn.

While Meghan didn’t don any of Diana’s jewels for the wedding ceremony, she famously sported her aquamarine cocktail ring at the evening reception, paired with her Stella McCartney halterneck dress. Over the years, Meghan has also worn several pieces from Diana’s collection, including a Cartier bracelet and butterfly earrings.

Elsewhere in the extract, it is suggested that William and Kate “unconsciously upped their game” following the positive press coverage Harry and Meghan received after their engagement announcement.

The author alleges that William felt slighted when Harry and Meghan were scheduled for a morning engagement in Cardiff in January 2018, which conflicted with one of his own. The book states: “Competitive by nature, even when it comes to media coverage, he [William] chose that same afternoon to debut a new and dramatic buzz-cut during a visit to a London hospital.”

The book alleges that William “expected to be treated with deference due to his place in the succession”. It further states: “Some members of Charles’s household were amused that William had felt so affronted. After all, the prince rarely showed much deference to his father.”

Following this, Harry and Meghan dramatically resigned from their Royal duties and relocated to America for a fresh start – their relationship with William and Kate seems to have hit an all-time low. Their feud was intensified by the criticism Harry directed at them in his Netflix documentary, as well as Spare.

In the Netflix docuseries, Harry accused his brother of leaving him “terrified” when he began “screaming and shouting” at him during the notorious Sandringham Summit. Meanwhile, in Spare, Harry alleges that a physical altercation occurred between him and William at Nottingham Cottage in Kensington Palace in 2019.

During recent visits back to the UK, Harry has not met with his brother and they did not sit together at the Coronation. According to Mr Jobson’s new book, as far as William is concerned regarding Harry, “there is no way back”.
