The Princess of Wales is slowly making her way back to royal engagements with Kate surprising royal fans by attending a service at Balmoral’s Crathie Kirk Church on Sunday.

Princess Kate, 42, was driven to Crathie Kirk Church in Balmoral by Prince William, 42, as they joined King Charles, 75, and Queen Camilla, 77, for Sunday Service.

Kate looked happy and well in one of her favourite khaki hats, in the first time she has been seen in public since releasing a video to announce the end of her cancer treatment.

Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond admitted although she was “surprised” to see the couple in Balmoral so soon the visit highlights how important family time is to the pair.

She said: “We don’t know whether they had the children with them, but their visit underlines how important they feel it is to spend time with Charles.

It’s been a few weeks since they’ve been together and I’m sure William in particular feels he wants to stay in close touch with his papa – particularly as the King continues his cancer treatment.”

The expert added that it is a “good sign” that the Princess feels well enough to travel north after completing her cancer treatment.

“Obviously it’s much easier travelling as a royal than as an ordinary person, but all the same, it takes a certain amount of effort to up sticks for a weekend visit and to put yourself on show as they did on the drive to church. It was good news to see her there again”, said Jennie.

King Charles has always enjoyed a good relationship with his daughter-in-law, Princess Kate, but recently they have shared similar health concerns bringing the pair closer than ever.

Weighing in on this, Jennie said: “Catherine and Charles have a really special relationship, which has undoubtedly been made even stronger by their common experience of cancer.

Charles frequently refers to Kate as his “darling daughter-in-law” with the Princess having earned the admiration of the monarch after more than a decade in the Royal Family.

She has also given him three grandchildren – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
