Sarah Ferguson’s heartwarming 16-word message for King Charles and Princess Kate
Princess Kate and King Charles have been hailed as inspirations by Sarah Ferguson over how well they responsed to their cancer diagnoses.
The Duchess of York said the Princess of Wales and monarch are an example to all families undergoing health “journeys” and heaped praise on Kate’s recent video update.
Fergie commended the King and future queen for speaking openly about their health scares. She said: “I think they are an example to all families going through their own journeys of health.”
She said that she loved Princess Kate saying in her video that was is “always there for you”, adding: “It was a beautiful video with beautiful words.”
Kate had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer since late February after the King began his cancer care earlier the same month.
In a heartfelt message in the video, Kate described the past nine months as “incredibly tough” for the Waleses and how the “cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone”, with the experience giving her a “new perspective on everything.”
She said she was looking forward to being back at work and taking on a few more public engagements over the coming months.
Kate attended the English National Ballet’s matinee show of Giselle at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London on Thursday (September 26).
In an exclusive interview with People magazine in New York, the Duchess of York praised King Charles’s meeting patients at Macmillan Cancer Centre at University College Hospital in London in April.
She described the visit, which was the King’s first public-facing duty since news of his cancer diagnosis was released by Buckingham Palace, as “very brave” and “very courageous”. The Duchess said the visit will have given people hope.
Fergie told the publication of her own health that “you never really get rid of the worry”. The Duchess was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023 and with malignant melanoma in January this year.
The Duchess said her experience of undergoing a mastectomy, further checks and thoughts she might develop cancer again led to “a lot of very fragile mind work”.
She described her health as “really good” now, but she wasn’t pushing herself too much during her trip to New York, where the Duchess announced the launch of the Youth Impact Council, of which she is a founding ambassador.
YIC seeks to empower young people to help address issues such as climate change. Sarah Ferguson announced the launch at New York Climate Week on Thursday (September 26).
Sarah said at the launch: “My generation hasn’t acted quickly enough to confront some of the great challenges of our age.
“Too often, young people are denied the resources, recognition and the seat at the table they deserve. The purpose of the Youth Impact Council is to change that.
