Princess Kate sends ‘powerful message’ as she dons new ring with poignant meaning

The Princess of Wales melted hearts with her personal message to the nation earlier this week when she announced she had completed her preventative chemotherapy treatment and will resume her royal duties.

Princess Kate bravely spoke about how the last nine months “have been incredibly tough” for her and her family, adding that “life as you know it can change in an instant.

The future Queen’s heartfelt message about her cancer journey was spoken over images showing the Waleses and their children enjoying the outdoors, walking through woods and the couple cuddling as they held hands.

Kate stunned royal fans with her style choices for the video as she donned two dresses, an ivory and a light blue number.

But royal watchers also spotted that the princess was not wearing her iconic diamond and sapphire engagement ring and had a different ring on instead – the same one she was seen wearing in a video congratulating Team GB at the Olympic Games last month – and it may well carry a very poignant message.

Although in both cases it’s not clear which ring Kate is wearing, jewellery experts have suggested it resembles her eternity ring given to her many years ago by her husband, Prince William.

Now a diamond expert has weighed in on how the Princess of Wales paid a sweet nod to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana and how the new ring may symbolise the next chapter in her life.

Tobias Kormind, co-founder and MD of 77 Diamonds said: “Kate’s new ring is a wide eternity band set with sapphires interspersed with diamonds and seems to be around 3 to 4 carats total.

“A similar piece at 77 Diamonds starts from about £4,000. The ring is a nod to Kate’s sapphire engagement ring which belonged to Princess Diana and was unusually chosen by the late Princess from a catalogue.”

The expert added: “Kate’s new ring may be a symbol of hopeful new beginnings, with a poignant connection to the past.
Eternity rings represent everlasting love, and this style of ring was also in tune with the touching video, where Kate was seen spending time with her loved ones.”

Back in August, another expert claimed that Kate’s new ring may be more practical than her engagement ring, which features a 12-carat stone and is more susceptible to everyday wear and tear.

Maxwell Stone, of Steven Stone, said: “While Kate’s engagement ring is undoubtedly her most iconic piece of jewellery, it wasn’t the first ring she received from Prince William.

During their university days, William gave Kate a promise ring, and though it’s hard to be certain, recent footage of the royal couple suggests she may be wearing this sentimental piece again.

“Unlike Kate’s 12-carat engagement ring – which she typically removes during physical activities, sports, or any situation where there’s an increased risk of damage or loss – this ring is more practical for daily wear.
