Novak Djokovic’s US Open kit revealed as fresh questions are asked about his motivation

Novak Djokovic’s outfit for the US Open has been revealed and he will return to New York wearing a winning colour.

Djokovic’s shoe brand ASICS has released a video of the 24-time Grand Slam champion’s attire for the final Grand Slam of 2024 and it will have echoes of the kit he wore as he won the US Open in spectacular fashion last September.

The Serbian superstar has often worn a blue kit in the final third of the tennis season and his outfit for the Big Apple will be completed by a new version of his ASICS Court FF 3 tennis shoes.

There have been some concerns over Djokovic’s eagerness to get back on court ahead of his US Open defence, with his prolonged celebrations following his Olympic gold medal-winning performance at the Paris 2024 Games appearing to be ongoing.

Footage from a Serbian outlet showed Djokovic dancing in a nightclub while still wearing Serbian Olympic clothing, but it is unclear when the footage was taken.

What seems clear is Djokovic has taken an extended break from the court after his win against Carlos Alcaraz in the Olympics final, as he toasts what he openly admitted was his final big dream in tennis.

It will be fascinating to see where his motivation levels lie when he gets to New York after he pulled out of both the Toronto and Cincinnati ATP Tour 1000 events that are used by players to prepare for the US Open.

That decision means Djokovic will now arrive in New York without any practice matches on US hard courts, but former British No 1 Tim Henman has suggested the Olympic win could inspire the Serbian legend to push for more records.

He needs one more Grand Slam win to claim the record for the most majors in tennis history as he is currently tied with Margaret Court on 24 wins.

Djokovic will also be keen to have one or two final big wins over the next generation of Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner before he hangs up his rackets for the final time, with Henman convinced he will win more major titles.

I just don’t think the way he works means he will think he has won the gold medal and that’s it,” Henman told Tennis365 at a Vodafone Play Your Way To Wimbledon event.
“He still has an enormous passion for the game. He loves what he does and if anything, it might go the other way.

“Winning the Olympics might free him up. He might think he has ticked all the boxes and I am playing with the house’s money now. He might go out and feel no pressure as he looks to win another major at the US Open.

“That might be dangerous for the rest because he will play with freedom and while he is fit and healthy, I definitely think he has more major titles in him.”

Henman went on to suggest Djokovic’s win against Alcaraz in the Paris 2024 final was one of his finest achievements, as he clinched his first title of 2024 in the event he wanted to win more than any other this year.

“To see what Novak did in Paris, I just think it was absolutely incredible,” stated Henman.

“Specifically what he did in that final against Alcaraz was one of the greatest performances of his career.

“Pressure is all self-inflicted, but Djokovic spoke how much that gold medal meant to him and realistically, even by his amazing standards, that was his last chance at the age of 37.

“To beat Alcaraz, who was the French Open and Wimbledon champion was absolutely phenomenal.”
