Hugely damaging: Prince Harry blasted for airing ‘dangerous’ opinions with attack on Elon Musk
Prince Harry has been criticised for airing “dangerous” and “damaging” opinions about online safety after the duke launched an attack on X owner Elon Musk.
The Sussexes are on their second day of a four-day trip to Colombia, where they spoke at a summit on digital responsibility.
Seeming to hint at the UK riots in recent weeks, Harry told the crowd: “What happens online within a matter of minutes transfers to the streets. People are acting on information that isn’t true.”
Taking aim at Musk, Harry added: “It comes down to all of us to be able to spot the true from the fake. In an ideal world, those with positions of influence would take more responsibility.
We are no longer debating facts. For as long as people are allowed to spread lies, abuse, harass, then social cohesion as we know it has completely broken down.”
Reacting to the remarks, royal commentator Helena Chard told GB News that the royal’s comments are potentially “dangerous” and “hugely damaging” to the Royal Family.
Chard explained: “Prince Harry catastrophises everything, we see it all the time. Everything’s awful, terrible, and he thinks everyone’s out to get him.
“He thinks he’s the person that should be waving the flag, leading everyone onto better things – this is not the case at all. And actually, I just feel that his opinion a lot of the time is quite dangerous.
In criticism of his decision to take on Musk and the social media platforms, Chard claimed he is “not qualified” to take on the “media conglomerates.
Chard told GB News: “I think challenging conglomerates with reference to online safety and getting them to put money into the research, that’s fine.
“But I think hitting out and just making these random statements, I don’t think he’s qualified to do that.”
When asked if she believes Harry is “catching on the back of the Southport riots” in order to “stay relevant”, Chard agreed, responding: “He’s in Colombia for goodness sake, it’s so not safe. You know what’s going on, this is silly.
“The riots we had here, they were quick, they’re over. There was lots of meaning behind it. How can he talk about these riots? He’s not qualified to do that.
Turning the discussion to Meghan Markle alongside Harry on the tour, Chard offered her verdict on the “staged” performance of the Sussexes and claimed the duchess is “running the show”.
Chard swiped: “This has really turned into the Meghan show from what I can see. It’s great to lend themselves to wanting to combat cyberbullying, but this is just such a huge PR situation.
“I just don’t know how collaborative it is as well. This is from my point of view hugely damaging to our Royal Family.
“Is it the Colombian government that’s actually leading everything? We really don’t know.
