Judy Murray has marked the end of her son Andy Murray’s iconic tennis career with emotional throwbacks on Instagram on Thursday (1st August).
Hailed as one of Scotland’s greatest ever sportsmen after winning three Grand Slam titles and two Olympic gold medals across his 20-year career, the British tennis star hung up his racket last night at the Paris Olympics 2024.
Defeated in the quarter finals of the men’s doubles competition by players Tommy Paul and Taylor Fritz from the United States, Andy Murray shared it was his final competitive match.
Throughout the whole of his career, his mum Judy Murray has always been by his side. To celebrate his incredible sportsmanship, Judy shared a photo of Andy at his first match when he was just five years old and the last one of him at his last match yesterday at the Paris Olympics 2024, aged 37.
Fans have been quick to comment on Judy’s heartfelt post, sharing how much Andy is an inspiration to tennis and how much joy he has bought to the nation over the years.
Judy also collaborated with the Lawn Tennis Association to create a video with some of Andy Murray’s closest family members, including herself, his wife Kim Sears and his brother Jamie Murray.
In the video, Judy says “He’s my wee boy!” and recalls the moment when she found out ‘James Bond’ was watching her son play tennis.
The video also captures some of Andy’s career highlights, while those closest to him share his incredible journey to becoming a world class player.
