Andy Murray breakfast row brought back up as tennis star calls him ‘a cry baby

British tennis star Liam Broady has cheekily dubbed icon Andy Murray a ‘cry baby’ as he reignited their joke breakfast feud on social media. Murray retired from professional tennis after defeat in the quarter finals of the men’s doubles at the Olympics in Paris – but not without leaving some of his usual dry wit behind.

Broady and Murray were involved in a funny little fight on social media after the former complained about the lack of food available for athletes at the CTI Open. Broady wrote on X: “First match at 10am today so have to warm up at 8:30. Breakfast doesn’t open till 9am? Walked into player area and we’ve got… bagels. Really good for a high standard of tennis and tennis tournament in Atlanta.

Murray spotted this post and replied: “Hope you are okay mate. That sounds terrible. Surprised you hadn’t checked the breakfast situation ahead of time like most professionals would have done.

Clearly ready to continue this little tiff, Broady replied: “You have five people just to wipe your bum for you man. You’ve never checked a situation ahead of time in your life, we are not the same.

Murray then responded to this with an emoji of a fishing rod, suggesting that he had reeled Broady into his bait of a joke fight. After Murray’s retirement was confirmed with the quarter-final defeat, Broady posted a picture of the British icon looking upset on the television and captioned it with: “What a cry baby”, alongside a smirking face emoji.

Keen to keep up the running joke, former American tennis star Andy Roddick replied: “He must have missed breakfast”, calling back to the food feud Broady and Murray had on X earlier on last month.

Broady clearly found this comment funny as he responded to Roddick: “Only bagels in Paris”, alongside a laughing face emoji.

Murray has hung up his racket after 19 years in the sport with a glittering career of three Grand Slam wins – which include two Wimbledon titles and one US Open victory.

Meanwhile, Broady has yet to make it past the third round of a Grand Slam competition, and was defeated in straight sets by Terence Atmane in the qualifiers of the CTI open.

While this little fight on social media was all in jest, it is safe to say that the tennis fans will certainly miss Murray’s dry sense of humour and wit in the sporting world.
