Just In: Zara Tindall’s royal status seen as ‘threat’ to her marriage with Mike
Zara Tindall’s royal status once seen as a ‘problem’ by Mike’s grandmother.
Today, King Charles’ niece Zara is celebrating one of the most special days of her life: her 14th wedding anniversary with her husband Mike Tindall.
Although, Zara and Mike have long been considered favourites within the royal family, there was one person who had reservations about their wedding before they tied the knot in 2011.
Princess Anne’s daughter and the former rugby player were married in a beautiful ceremony in Edinburgh surrounded by close family members, including the late Queen, Princess Kate and Prince William. The couple looked happy and deeply in love on their big day.
However, in a 2020 interview, Mike’s father Philip revealed that Mike’s grandmother initially had doubts about their reunion. She feared that Zara’s royal status might pose a problem.
Speaking to The Sunday Times: Philip said: ‘Linda’s mum, Mike’s grandmother was dead against it. She thought the wedding would be shunned. But right from the start the whole family was just lovely.’
It is also note worthy that the sweet couple first connected through Prince Harry in 2003 at the Rugby World Cup in Australia.
