Meghan Markle and the late Princess Diana’s surprisingly sweet connection revealed
Meghan Markle and the late Princess of Wales are said to share many similar attributes, especially in the eyes of Prince Harry.
As well as the struggles they faced joining the Royal Family and in their love of fashion, Meghan also poses a future of the joys and struggles of bringing up two young children – much like Princess Diana.
Diana often displayed that she was a dedicated and loving mother, with one public interaction portrayed how well-equipped she was in helping fellow mothers and children in need.
Speaking on the Storia Podcast, Carrie Lloyd – whose father Tony was Princess Diana’s charity advisor and director of The Leprosy Mission – spoke of a story of the royal, who died aged 36 in 1997, wanting to and help a fellow mother on a flight.
Recalling the story, which she recited from her late father, Ms Lloyd said: “There was someone just behind the curtain with a baby crying and screaming, and you could tell this mother was just on her own.
Diana is kind of looking through the crack in the window and she turns to Ken [Wharfe, her bodyguard] and says ‘Please, can I just go back there and go and help her?’, and he said, ‘No, mam, you really can’t, you really cannot go through. No one knows you’re on this flight’.
“She [then] turns to my dad and she goes, ‘What do you think Tony?”
She then adds that her father couldn’t see a problem with the royal’s request, to which responds by standing up and walking through the curtain.
Ms Lloyd added: “She goes through the curtain, opens the curtain up and dad just saw these faces, kind of wide-eyed and who had just come through, thinking it was a flight attendant or something.
Recalling what Diana then said to the mother, Ms Lloyd said: “She goes, ‘Can I help you for a minute? I’ve got more room up there.”
She added: “And she just passed this baby up . Diana took the baby [and] went behind the curtain and five minutes later, walking up and down nursing this baby, baby fell straight to sleep. Handed the baby back over to the mother, who is now crying her eyes out by this point. And Diana turns and she says, “It happens to the best of us.”
Much like Diana, Meghan has shown how much she cares in the way she parents her own children – Archie 5, and Lilibet, 3.
It was previously reported that, after a few a series of unsuccessful partnerships with professional nannies over the past few years, Meghan and Harry made the decision to not have a Norland-style nanny.
When the couple fly out of the US for work commitments, Meghan and Harry opt to make use of Doria Ragland to care for Archie and Lilibet – with Meghan’s mum said to be the only person the couple trust with their children.
As previously reported by Express.co.uk, a source described Meghan and Harry as “extremely protective” when it comes to their children.
The source added: “Meghan feels much more comfortable with the children under her mother’s watchful eye and Harry was very keen to keep it [childcare] in the family. Both Harry and Meghan are extremely protective of their children and only stop worrying about them if Doria is in charge whenever they are away.
“Doria was instrumental in looking after Archie and Lilibet when they [Harry and Meghan] were in Nigeria and she treats them like they are her own.
