Another victory for Sir Andy Murray and Wife Kim Sear as hotel named ‘best in Britain’ at industry awards
Sir Andy Murray is used to collecting silverware after a glittering tennis career. And he shows no signs of breaking that habit even after retirement.
The two-time Wimbledon champ picked up yet another bauble when the hotel he co-owns with wife Kim was named the best independent hotel with under 50 rooms at an industry awards. The Cromlix, located near to Dunblane where Sir Andy grew up, received the honour at the 2026 Independent Hotel Show Awards.
The awards recognise outstanding hotels, rising stars in hospitality and quality design, celebrating the innovation and excellence present across the board in the UK’s independent hotel sector. Cromlix House dates from the Victorian age when it was built as a private home.
It was converted into a hotel in 1981, before closing in the early 2010s. It was re-opened in 2014 after being bought by Sir Andy, who along with his wife, took over the day-to-day management in 2023.
Now a five-star destination, Sir Andy’s connection with the Cromlix is strong. His grandparents held their silver anniversary party there in 1982 and since then the family has celebrated numerous birthdays and weddings there, including Sir Andy’s own in 2015.
His brother Jamie also had his wedding there in 2010. While Sir Andy is seen as the face of the hotel, it is Kim who plays a more active role, immersing herself in the tiniest of details, such as the lettering on the menus and the décor.
At the same awards, held in partnership with Preferred Hotels and Resorts, The Grand in York, was named the top independent hotel with 50 rooms and over.
Brenda Collins, EVP Europe at Preferred Hotels and Resorts, said: “It was wonderful to see the amazing range of independent hotels shortlisted and congratulations to all the winners!”
