“Absolutely abysmal” – Danielle Collins makes honest admission about her struggles with endometriosis & her egg-freezing decision
Danielle Collins has answered a couple of fan questions regarding her struggles with endometriosis and her decision to freeze her eggs. Collins was diagnosed with severe endometriosis in 2021 and in April the very same year, she had to undergo an emergency surgery to treat her condition. In 2025, the former World No. 7 American announced an indefinite break from tennis due to her egg-freezing decision and management of rheumatoid arthritis.
One of the questions fielded to her was about the surgical procedure she underwent to treat her severe endometriosis. Claiming that the surgery was ‘life changing’, the 2022 Australian Open runner-up wrote in her answer on Instagram:
“The surgery was life changing for me… I would have never been able to have the career I did without having surgery for my endo in 2021. My cycles were really terrible for a long time and caused so many issues day to day. It worked really great for me and alleviated so many of my symptoms for a really long time.”
However, Collins went on to reveal that her cycles have been affected badly by egg freezing, adding:
“Now that I’ve done so many rounds of egg freezing my cycles have been pretty awful. I’m hoping they will go back to normal at some point.”
Another question was about Collins’ opinion of gaps in care she noticed while undergoing her egg-freezing procedure. In this particular answer, the 32-year-old was extremely critical of the bedside manner she experienced. However, she lauded a doctor in her family who gave her the right advice when she began experiencing severe symptoms, which eventually required her to undergo a surgery.
