“Pathetic, disgusting thing to say” – Fans slam tennis presenter for ‘Let it go’ take on Alexander Zverev’s domestic abuse allegations

Tennis fans vented their ire at noted presenter Marcus Buckland for asking people to gloss over the past domestic abuse allegations surrounding Alexander Zverev. He was accused of domestic violence by former partner Olga Sharypova in October 2020, and then once again in July 2023 by Brenda Patea, the mother of his daughter and another ex-girlfriend.

While Sharypova did not press charges against Zverev, Patea did initiate legal proceedings against him. They resolved the dispute via an out-of-court settlement in June 2024. However, Zverev has never been able to dodge his past. The German contested the US Open 2026 final against Ben Shelton on Sunday, September 13.

Mary Carillo was one of the commentators for the match, and she referenced Zverev’s past allegations. This was highlighted by journalist Ben Rothenberg on X (formerly Twitter), who also broke the story about Sharypova’s allegations in 2020. Rothenberg gave props to Carillo for not shying away from making note of Zverev’s alleged misdeeds.

However, tennis presenter Buckland had another view on the matter. He responded to Rothenberg’s post on X, and asked people to drop the matter, or else it would only give them sleepless nights.

“Let it go. It’ll eat you up inside otherwise,” Buckland wrote on X.

Fans didn’t agree with his take, and were left quite disappointed and mad at his suggestion. They were quite shocked at him for taking allegations of domestic abuse so lightly.

“As someone who I’ve enjoyed for years, even decades covering tennis, I am absolutely gobsmacked and frankly disgusted at you posting this,” wrote one fan.

“Absurd, pathetic, disgusting thing to say,” expressed another fan.

“And this is precisely why so many women are left in abusive relationships or never believed – no-one wants to know because it’s too inconvenient,” chimed in one fan.

“Think you’ve got this one wrong, Marcus,” said a fan.

“What a terrible look,” wrote one fan.

“This is so horrific to see. This is really sad to see, Marcus,” said another fan.

Zverev has always vehemently denied all allegations against him. As for Buckland, he issued a further clarification after fans expressed their disappointment at him
