BREAKING: Emma Raducanu drops exciting comeback video after missing US Open

Emma Raducanu has shared a promising update as she continues her absence from the tennis tour. The Brit has not played a match since June, when she finished runner-up at Queen’s. She pulled out of Wimbledon on the eve of the tournament due to a stress fracture in her leg, and missed the US Open for the same reason.

It’s still not known when Raducanu will return to competition, though she has automatically been entered into the China Open, a mandatory WTA 1000 event in Beijing. But the world No. 70 shared an exciting video of herself hitting some serves on Monday, more than 3,000 miles away from Flushing Meadows.

Earlier this summer, Raducanu had to wear a protective boot on her right leg after picking up a stress fracture. She previously shared footage of herself tentatively hitting while wearing the boot. In one clip, she even had to sit on a bin.

But the boot has now been relegated to the bin, as the British No. 2 has resumed regular practice. Raducanu shared a short clip of herself hitting some serves on the indoor courts at the LTA’s National Tennis Centre in Roehampton on Monday.

“Day 4,” she wrote over the footage in an Instagram story. It’s not known whether it’s day four of Raducanu’s return to practice altogether, or the early stages of her hitting serves, or training without the boot. It’s understood that she had been around the National Tennis Centre this summer already.

But it’s a positive sign for the former world No. 10, who has had some horror luck on her side over the past year. Raducanu had to end her 2025 season early due to a foot injury, and light bone bruising in the area wrecked her pre-season preparations.

She then picked up an illness during her run to the Transylvania Open final in February – her first final since winning the 2021 US Open. Although Raducanu attempted to play through it in Doha, Dubai and Indian Wells, she then spent two months sidelined by post-viral illness.

The Brit returned on the clay courts in Strasbourg with old coach Andrew Richardson, who guided her to that US Open title, back in her corner. Although Raducanu suffered opening-round defeats in Strasbourg and at the French Open, she rediscovered her best tennis on the grass.

But Raducanu had to play three matches in two days to reach the Queen’s final in June, contributing to the lower leg niggle which developed into a stress fracture, and she has not competed since.

The 23-year-old was “sad” to miss the US Open on the five-year anniversary of her historic title run as a qualifier, but now looks to be making progress. Raducanu has not been named in Britain’s squad for the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in China from September 22 to 27.

For now, she is on the entry list for the China Open, taking place from September 30 to October 11. It’s standard practice for a player ranked high enough to enter the draw of a mandatory WTA 1000 event, but it’s still a promising sign – especially now that Raducanu is sharing videos from her practice sessions.
